I set myself a little challenge of rummaging through my makeup stash to try and create a good quality makeup look for less than £25. Thats the whole face. We're talking base, eyes, lips and cheeks. Now, there were ways I could have definitely cheated/fulfilled this easier - mostly using all one brand of the same cheap makeup, for example MUA, Collection 2000, 2True etc etc, but I wanted to go across the board of what's available in Superdrug and Boots and that meant mix and match! I also wanted to try and use slightly better quality makeup, because nothing makes us feel better than good makeup. There's nout wrong with MUA/Collection 2000 etc, but sometimes you just need to spend a couple more pounds to get a little more bang for your buck. I've included a good mix of high street makeup here so lets take a look and see how I created the above look!
First up, this rather dandy looking NYC palette actually isn't out in the UK yet, i've gotten my hands on it by being their NYC Ambassador - pretty neat eh? This means i've got all sorts of bits and bobs from NYC to show you and for a cheap brand it has been surprising me with a few gems. This palette being one of them. There are actually three of these Individual Eyes palettes and they'll be released this year early Jan/Feb time. They retail at just £2.99 - bargain! I created a soft look for the eyes using the primer base and the gold and brown shades, and then finished it off with the Bourjois Volume Clubbing Mascara in Ultra Black, which retails at £5.99. Current total: £8.98.
I then set about doing my base, and for this I used the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation - cause it's not too far off from my natural skin tone. It still feels a tiny bit dark for me, but its way better matched than most high street foundations! The shade i'm using is 100 Ivory. This is currently on offer in Superdrug for £5.99. I created a soft yet defined look with one of my favourite cream blushers, by Topshop. The shade is called Prime Time and it's a pure beauty! It's so pigmented, so you only need tiny dabs. This retails at £6. Current total: £20.97.
I then finished the look with a soft dab of 17's Supreme Shine Lipstick in shade Hot Stuff - which is fast becoming one of my favourite lipsticks! These are a little at the pricier end of the lipstick high street but they're my favourite because of the pigmentation and the longevity. I do firmly believe it's worth paying a couple quid extra for those factors! These cost £4.99.
Final total: £25.96
Okay so I went 96p over budget, but it's not too much to spare? Just skip your Diet Coke for one day? Haha. I think it's great to set yourself a budget for makeup, we can get so wrapped up in buying the latest thing that it's not until we add it all up that we realise how expensive just one full face of makeup is!
What do you think of the picks in my high street make up challenge? Do you use any of these items/brands? What do you think about setting yourself a budget? Do you enjoy high street makeup shopping?
Also, tempted to make this a tag; so I tag all of you! If you do a post with your own £25 High Street face challenge, tweet me it @londonlipgloss so I can get inspired by your picks!

Disclaimer: Everything here aside from the Topshop blusher was a PR sample sent to me for free. Topshop blush paid for with my own money.
Great post, you managed to pick up some good bits!
ReplyDeleteLoe Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation, a great foundation that can rival the high street for under a tenner (and we're the same colour. Sadly excited by that). x
ReplyDeleteI love high street make up! I love make up and skincare, but I also like paying my bills on time ;) Great post x
ReplyDeleteFit face Zozo, I find myself becoming a massive makeup snob opting for higher end brands, I really should try more budget stuff! Particularly like the look of the lippy! Also, I love your top!! x
ReplyDeleteGreat post and thanks for mentioning the rimmel foundation. i'm super pale so it's good to know it's one I can pick up on the high street.

That lip color is so nice :) The blush looks amazing as well! x
ReplyDeleteI like the look of that NYC palette, and I like the price too!! I'll be keeping an eye out for that one! And I love that you didn't use all of the same brand too, It's unusual to see Topshop makeup in this sort of post! I love drugstore makeup shopping, I feel really bad if I spend loads of money on one thing! And I find the wake me up foundation in 100 to be a better match than most for my pale skin too! Still not perfect though haha

I need to try that foundation! I don't think it looks too dark, but maybe it's because of the lighting, looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to do this tag! Well, once I get back to Uni and my collection! Great post! Love the 17 lipsticks, my all time favourite is Pink Posey but I really want to try that out now!

This is a great little challenge and a great way to see good quality high street make-up being used. I think sometimes we get carried away with the more expensive make-up brands and forget if you look harder you can find some little treasures at high street price. I use Rimmel's wake me up foundation every day I absolutely love it, I'm forever re-buying when I run out. xo
ReplyDeleteZoe, this is so CLEVER! Tempted to do a copy and do a post, or even just do it for myself! And you look gorgeous as usual, your skin always looks so flawless, some great products used
